The play is a pleasurable challenge that defies fixed interpretation: like the prince himself, we think our way through his uncertainties, which by extension apply to us all. This is one of the greatest plays ever written and, though more than 400 years old, it provokes thought and is as relevant to the human condition at the beginning of the 21st century as it was at the start of the 17th.

Even the language is familiar: "to the manner born", "method in his madness", and "there's the rub" are three expressions still used today which originated in this play, and there are many others that will jump out of the page.
